Fishing report 6/15 – 7/9

It’s been a while since my last report. We have been extremely busy with some exceptional fishing. I also found the time to take my family vacation over the week of July 4th. visiting Florida and Tennessee. We are seeing large amounts of bait fish in and around the Port of Kenosha Wi attracting solid numbers of Coho salmon and producing limit catches most days. We are also seeing more Chinook salmon, Lake trout, and Rainbow trout move into the area to feed on the large masses of bait fish. Salmon-A-Rama starts July 14th and runs through July 22nd. There will be over 30,000 of prize money up for grabs with a number of categories you can enter from shore, boat, youth, and kayak divisions. I will be fishing the Super sweepstakes fishing derby this Saturday July 14th with some regular clients of mine. I have a number of opening still in my calendar especially during week day evenings. If you would like to purchase a ticket and book a Sundown special charter with us we leave the docks between 4-5pm and fish until sundown. This is a great low light period when many big fish are active and looking for a meal. If you want your chance at some prize monies give us a call and we will work out the details. I have been every fortunate to become a brand ambassador for Bullbuster.net this season. I am very impressed with the quality and price of their fishing line. We have been using 20lb. mono on our down rigger, planer board, and shallow dipesy rods this season along with 65lb braid line for backing on our wire dipsey, and long line copper rods. I have had zero break offs or fraying with bullbuster.net products and you can’t beat the factory direct pricing!! If you are in need of some new fishing line for your equipment go to bullbuster.net and use my promo code BJACO please. Summer fishing is now in full swing the fish are huge this year with many 20+ Chinook salmon already being landed and they are only going to get bigger as we continue into late summer and fall fishing!! Tight lines & see you on the water.

Fishing report 6/1 – 6/14

Summer is almost here and the fishing continues to be red HOT!! June has started off where May left us with solid numbers of Coho salmon and more Rainbow trout, Lake trout and Chinook (King) salmon moving into the fishing ground out of the port of Kenosha Wi. Large masses of bait fish are concentrated in 120fow to 190fow, we are catching fish near the surface with Church tackle planner boards and Bullbuster mono dipsey’s with Dreamweaver spindoctor coho killer in both small and large sizes set just out of sight and on our bullbuster braid dipsey’s with 8″ whie flasher and white flies and Dreamweaver 8″ coho killer spin doctors set between 50′ and 70′ on our line counters. Our down riggers have been producing anywhere between 25’down to the bottom landing fish using an assortment of Michigan stinger spoons, dodger/spin & glow flies, and 8″ white flashers with Howie tackle LLB and froggy flies or Isn’t no joke, LBB, or froggy Fire Flies. When leaving the port of Kenosha we look for 50 degree water that has been holding the bait and predator fish where we set our trolling speed between 2.4 to 2.7mph for the best results. Another productive method has been using our copper line rods at lengths of 75′ and 150′ pulled behind the Church tackle planner boards using a number of spoons in color patterns of white, blue, green or orange. The official start of summer is only a week away and the forecast for this weekend is calling for 90’s with heat index or over 100 degrees. We should start seeing thermoclines setup in Lake Michigan that will change depths with the wind and currents. We have been very busy booking charters and just have a few weekend dates remaining in August and starting to book into September already. This is going to be a year of BIG fish get your group together and give us a call to enjoy a great day on the Great Lakes!!

Fishing Report 5/19 – 5/31

Been busy with very good Coho fishing since our last report. Every trip we are finding large schools of Coho salmon with some Chinook salmon Rainbow trout sprinkled in as well. Majority of the fish are being caught in the top of the water column everywhere from 25′ to 200′ of water using small red/orange dodgers and peanut flies on Church walleye boards and original Yellow bird boards, Michigan Stinger spoons, Dreamweaver spindoctor rotators all using Bullbuster monofilament line and leader material. Fishing should remain steady moving into the summer months with larger numbers of Chinook salmon and Lake trout moving into the fishing grounds off Kenosha Wisconsin. If you are looking for steady action and the tastiest fish for the grill come out and get your fill of the Coho salmon to bring home your dinner plate!!

Fishing Report 5/13/2018

Worked our way through some morning storms to land a nice rack of fish for our clients Sunday. 21 Coho, salmon 1 Brown trout and a sweet 16lb lake trout caught in three hours of trolling with bullbuster monofilament fishing line. Due to the late start of the migration north due to below average temperatures this spring and large numbers of bait fish being seen on our fish locator and in the stomachs of our catch while cleaning my early season prediction are for a solid fishing season with solid numbers of Coho salmon and some solid weights approaching the 40lb mark this summer from our Chinook salmon and Lake trout. We have been fortunate to have great near shore conditions to be able to fish within 500 yards of shore in 15-35 fow. As the temperatures rise in coming weeks and the wind patterns change the lake will set up thermoclines at different depths in the water column’s and we will adjust our techniques, tackle, to target fish lying as deep as 300 fow and beyond. #kenoshacharterfishing #bullbusterambassator #freshwaterfishing

May 5 – 7 fishing report

Finally the weather has warmed here in the Midwest and we were able to get out on Lake Michigan and start our 2018 fishing season. Some good numbers of Coho salmon and Brown trout being caught on 20# bullbuster mono fishing line. As the water continues to warm the Coho fishing will continue to improve and we will start seeing more Chinook (king) salmon, Lake trout, and Rainbow trout showing up in solid numbers. Our first trip we landed 13 of 18 hooked all Coho salmon our second trip we had a nice mixed bag of Coho salmon and Brown trout. The following day we landed 11 of 16 Coho salmon looking for their morning meal. All our fish were caught in 15 to 30 feet of water with most of the fish feeding on the surface due to the gnat and flies hatch this past weekend. Air temperatures were in the sixties while water temperatures are warming to near fifty degrees. We are looking forward to spooling up additional reels with bullbuster braid fishing line in addition to fluorocarbon leader line needed when fishing clear, deep water when a stealthy presentation is needed. Get out and enjoy some time on the water and take a kid fishing!!

Capt. Brandon

Are you longing for the long warm days of summer fishing on Lake Michigan?

We certainly are!! It may not seem like it now but your 2018 fishing trip is just around the corner. By April we will be back in full swing and filling the coolers with tasty Coho Salmon. It has been a busy offseason and we are nearly booked solid on weekend trips for May and June. Now is the time if you have not made your reservations already we will be at the Wild Indiana sports show the weekend of January 12-14th and Eastern Iowa Cedar Falls fishing expo March 9-11th. Many of the prime dates will be gone by the end of the winter shows. Our fishery has improved greatly over the last couple of years with an increase in our Alewife (bait fish) population we were landing Coho up to 12lbs or better and King Salmon 20lbs or better. Wisconsin also increased our daily bag limit of Lake Trout from two per person to five per person with some lunker 25lb plus being caught. New this year I will be adding some offshore trips of 6,7,& 8hrs as well. There is an almost untapped fishery out in deep water that holds large numbers of Rainbow trout and many mixed bag days are to be had by voyaging out to these waters. If you would like to try something new just ask me about the Offshore trip and enjoy some extra time on the lake!!
